Attorney Michael S. Pascazi Secures Order of N.Y.S. Supreme Court (Brooklyn) Requiring DNA Testing of 19 Year Old Murder Evidence to Exonerate Pascazi’s Client

Michael S. Pascazi, Esq., has convinced the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit, and thereby, the Court that DNA testing on 19 year old forensic evidence retrieved by the New York City Police Department, is proper and necessary, vis a vis Attorney Pascazi’s attempt to overturn a 17 year old murder conviction, and free his client. Testing, if not already underway by the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office (which has one of the best DNA labs in the country), will be performed imminently.

Michael S. Pascazi, Esq., has petitioned the N.Y.S. Supreme Court, Kings County (Brooklyn) to overturn, with the aid of DNA testing, Shaliq Peterson’s 1995 conviction for second degree murder. To date 251 individuals have been exonerated from wrongful convictions through the use of DNA testing. DNA testing was not widely used in New York State courts in the mid 90’s. Today it is commonplace. It can be used to establish guilt as well as innocence.
